The date you choose shapes everything — the weather, the light, the price, and how the photographs feel. Here’s the honest month-by-month guide I give every couple.
Puerto Vallarta has two seasons: a warm, dry "high" season and a lush, humid "green" season. Neither is wrong — they simply produce different weddings. As the person photographing your day, what I care about most is the light, and Vallarta has beautiful light year-round.
High season: November–April
This is the classic window — warm days around 27–30°C, low humidity, blue skies and almost no rain. It’s why most couples choose it, and why venues book up 9–12 months ahead. The trade-offs are higher prices and busier beaches. If you want the postcard-perfect dry-season look and guaranteed sunshine, this is your range.
Photographer’s note: sunsets in winter come early (around 6 pm), so ceremonies often start at 4–4:30 pm to catch golden hour for portraits.

Shoulder season: late October & May
My personal favorite. You get most of the dry-season reliability with fewer crowds and softer pricing. May is hot but gorgeous; late October brings the jungle back to brilliant green after the rains. This is the sweet spot for value and beauty.
Green season: June–October
Don’t dismiss it. The hillsides turn emerald, the light goes soft and cinematic, and prices drop. Rain typically arrives as warm evening thunderstorms — dramatic for photos, and usually gone by morning. The key is a simple covered backup plan. September is the wettest and least predictable month; June and early July are often lovely.
Quick recommendations
- Most reliable weather: December–April
- Best value + beauty: late October, early May
- Lush & dramatic, lower cost: June–July
- Plan a backup: August–September
