Your photographs are the one part of the wedding you take home forever. Here’s how to choose the person who makes them — from someone on the other side of the camera.
Choosing a wedding photographer is part art, part trust. The portfolio tells you what they can do; the conversation tells you what it will feel like to have them beside you on one of the most important days of your life. Here’s what actually matters.
1. Start with style — and look past the highlights
Every photographer edits a few "greatest hits." Ask to see a full gallery from a single wedding, start to finish. That shows you consistency — how they handle harsh midday sun, dim receptions, family formals and quiet in-between moments, not just the one perfect sunset frame. If their full work moves you, you’ve found something real.
2. Confirm real Puerto Vallarta experience
Destination weddings have their own rhythm — boat logistics, jungle humidity, fierce sunset deadlines, working with local planners. A photographer who knows Vallarta’s venues and light will be calmer and quicker, and it shows in the images. Ask which venues they’ve shot and how they handle our specific light.

3. Ask about coverage and team
How many hours? One shooter or two? A second photographer captures reactions and angles a single person simply can’t — every one of my collections includes two. Ask about backup equipment, how many images you’ll receive, and — crucially — delivery time. I deliver a sneak peek within 24 hours and full galleries in two to three weeks.
4. Read the reviews — and feel the connection
Look for couples describing how the photographer made them feel: comfortable, unhurried, themselves. That ease is what produces natural photographs. When you talk to them, notice whether you relax. You’ll be closer to your photographer than almost anyone else on the day.
Questions worth asking
- Can I see a full wedding gallery, beginning to end?
- Have you shot at my venue, or in Puerto Vallarta?
- Is a second photographer included? Videography?
- How many edited images will I receive, and how soon?
- What happens if there’s rain, or an equipment failure?
If my work resonates with you and you’d like to talk through your day, I’d love to hear from you. I take on a limited number of weddings each year so every couple gets my full attention — say hello here.
